Blog 5: Women to Men - Why are they treated differently?

Why are women and men treated differently? Sexism is a huge part of society today.  It a woman kisses multiple guys or anything similar to this or even just one, they are referred to as a "whore" or a "slut."  But when a guy does this, they are looked at as heroes and receive a pat on the back.  Why is this acceptable in our society?  Women and men should be treated equally and our actions should be looked at on the same level.  I am not saying that what either gender is doing is right, I just believe that if they are doing the same thing than they should be judged the same way.

Do First Ladies Serve As Bad Role Models?

When we look at the leaders of our country, we look to the President; but to what many eyes goes unseen is that the First Lady is also a role model as well. She is seen to be prim and proper and to always back her husband, the president, up.  Other features that go into the duties of the First Lady as a role model are things such as personality, behavior, and looks.  Many people feel that they should follow the role of the First Lady, but in may cases I feel that we should not.  For example, President Cleveland's young wife was looked as, as silent and beautiful.  Women wanted to be her, but I feel that opinion and personality should be more important than worrying about beauty.  Beauty can be important in cases, but it should not be the main importance.  First Ladies need to serve more as having their personality and opinion to be an important aspect of life if we are to continue to look up to them as our role models.

To Work or Not to Work

I feel that it is a woman's choice whether they should work or not.  The world should not be the one telling women if they should or should not work.  If they want to work they should be able to without being condemned to lesser jobs and lower wages.  If they do not want to and want to stay at home with their children, they should be allowed to without being looked down upon as being lazy and inconsiderate of the rest of the working class.  Whether a mother works or not also depends on the situation of each individual woman and family.  Some families such as those with single, widowed, or divorced mothers have no choice as whether they want to work or not.  Many times they are shoved right into the work force and are left with the decision to have to put their children in daycare.  These women should not be looked down upon as not loving their children because they are doing what they have to do to keep their family and support them.  Women should have the choice of whether they want to work or not and should no be criticized either way for whichever choice they choose.

Blog #2: Effect of Television on Teenage Girls

Television play a main role in effecting teenage girls' view on how they should act, dress, etc.  The show Jersey Shore is one show that has a major effect.  The actresses on this reality television show portray views of women that should be unacceptable for teenage girls to see.  These girls look up to these women and believe that this is how they should act as well.  Television gives a bad influence to teenage girls.  The world will have more problems with teenagers in school, with underage drinking, teenage pregnancies, and others as well.  Television needs to make better shows that will give teenagers better influential figures to look up to.
